UL94 Equipment and Appliance Parts Plastic Materials Combustion Testing Services

UL94 Equipment and Appliance Parts Plastic Materials Combustion Test Standard is applicable to the flammability test of plastic parts of equipment and appliances. Whether a test material*** passes the test depends on its use in the overall device and its compliance with the standards applicable to that device. This standard can also be applied to other non-metallic materials, but does not apply to building materials and decorative plastic materials.

UL94 is divided into 12 fire protection levels:

HB， V-0 ，V-1 ，V-2 ， 5VA ，5VB ，VTM-0 ，VTM-1 ，VTM-2 ，HBF ， HF1 ，HF2 。

Among them, VTM-0 , VTM-1 and VTM-2 are suitable for plastic films,

HBF, HF1 , HF2 are suitable for foam materials

Level test plans include:

1) HB level :  horizontal burning test

2) V0- V2 level :  vertical burning test

3) 5VA/5VB: 5V level fire test

4) RP Class: Radiant panel flame spread test

5) VTM0-VTM2: Vertical burning test of thin materials

6) HF1-HF2: Foam material horizontal burning test

UL's safety rating is often used when vertical V0 , V1 or V2 methods are not feasible.

UL94 V0, V1 , V2 , 5V : vertical combustion

1)   UL94 V0 evaluation method: After the flame is removed after ignition, the sample can quickly self-extinguish to the point where no burning melt drips within 10 seconds .

2)  The UL94 V1 evaluation method is similar to V0 , except that the self-extinguishing time required is longer. After the burning melt is dropped onto a cotton pad located one foot below the test specimen, the melt is allowed to drip onto the cotton pad but not ignite the cotton.

3)  UL94 V2 is the same as V1 except it allows burning droplets to ignite cotton one foot below.

4)  UL94 5V is the most stringent testing method, which involves the actual life of plastic products in flames. The experiment requires a flame length of 5 inches , and the test sample is burned five times. During the burning period, no molten droplets are allowed to drip, the test sample is not allowed to have obvious distortion, and no burned holes are allowed.
